CrossPoint Medical Team
It's hard to believe that we've already spent three weeks in Ukraine and that the medical clinic portion of our trip has come to a close. Our time with the team, sent by CrossPoint Church in Texas, was so sweet, encouraging, and an experience we will never forget. We are grateful to God for every obedient heart that played a significant role in contributing something special to the clinics at Vilshany orphanage as well as 3 Roma communities.
Our first few days were at a rural orphanage in the small village of Vilshany. This orphanage cares for around 135 children and adults with severe special needs. The team was able to provide medical care for all of the children and adults and we also served alongside the dentist on staff in helping those who needed dental care. One of the days there was devoted to providing care to the orphanage staff and family, many of who were fatigued and heavy-laden from their difficult jobs. We prayed with many of the staff and encouraged them in the excellent job they're doing in caring for these beautiful children and adults.
The team then set up a medical and dental clinic in three different Roma villages in the area. We saw God work in the lives of the people we served in incredible ways, and we continue to pray for the hearts of everyone who came through the clinics- that they may know the unconditional love Jesus has for them.
All in all, the team provided medical and dental care for around 800 people between all three clinics in the different Roma villages. Praise God!
We want to give a special thanks to just a few of the people who made this trip possible.
Thank you Kim VanDevender, (Kelly's mom) for doing a fantastic job coordinating this trip. We know that these past two weeks would not have been possible without you. You listened to God's call to go back to Ukraine, and He has used your obedience to touch many lives.
Thank you, Hallenbeck family, for your hospitality to our team, and specifically to Mike for making things appear seamless during our stay here. For the countless errands, translating, and the hours of work you put into this before we even arrived, thank you.
Thank you to the Balazhinets family for helping coordinate our time in Vilshany, transportation, making sure that we ate well, and for giving us the opportunity to experience a bit of Uzhhorod. Your family brings so much joy to every situation and your friendship is priceless.
Many thanks to our dear friend, Clinton White, for helping coordinate many things behind the scenes, and for your generous hospitality by having the team over for delicious homemade tacos, fajitas, and ice cream. Also, thank you for accompanying us on the train to Hungary and being an amazing tour guide around Budapest.
Thank you to every one of our translators for going above and beyond! Each of you did so much more than translating. You wore smiles on your faces the entire time, mediated, and contributed in helping each clinic go smoothly. Our time in Ukraine wouldn't be the same without you.
